Mari Meyer is a journalist and writer. Born in Amsterdam, she now lives in Los Angeles. She holds a BA in Journalism and completed the 3 Year Conservatory program at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York, where she later became a faculty member of the Arts Justice Division. She’s passionate about telling stories that increase visibility for people and characters who either are or feel unseen.

As a journalist, she has over ten years of experience in news, art and entertainment journalism, both in the Netherlands and in the U.S. She’s currently U.S. correspondent for Dutch national newspaper Trouw, and works freelance as a news editor for four major Dutch newspapers including De Volkskrant. She does copy and script editing, translates for Vice Media titles, and has written for Vice and Catapult, amongst other publications.

In 2019, Mari’s short film script At Midnight was a finalist in the AT&T Hello Lab competition and one of her tv-spec scripts advanced to the semi-finals of NBC’s Writers on the Verge fellowship. Her dramedy pilot Big Maybe was a finalist for both Athena Film Festival Writers Lab and Outfest Screenwriting Lab in 2020 and a Sundance Episodic Lab semi-finalist. In 2021, the script advanced to the final round of The Orchard Project’s Episodic Lab. Mari’s drama pilot Silver Palms is a 2021 Sundance semi-finalist.

She has served as a reader for the annual Austin Film Festival Script Competition, produced and directed theater benefit performances for HomewardLA, and is a Human Rights Watch Film Festival screening committee member.
