Teaching & Outreach
Mari is a founding member of the OutsideIn theater project at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York, an ensemble that creates and performs original work with (formerly) incarcerated people and recovering addicts. On behalf of the Stella Adler Studio, she has taught acting to middle school students in The Bronx, using the class curriculum to introduce playwriting and voice & speech work. She also served as a faculty member of the Stella Adler Outreach Division and taught both Acting Technique and Contemporary Scene Study to at-risk teens on a scholarship.
Mari has served as a producer and director for Homeward LA, a theater project that raises awareness around the homeless crisis facing Los Angeles. Over 50 productions featuring the same monologues - based on stories from people who have faced homelessness their lifetime - are performed by hundreds of actors all over the city. All proceeds of the project, which is entirely executed by volunteer creators, benefit nonprofit organizations on Skid Row. In 2018, Mari produced two sold-out performances at Open Space LA, featuring Chris Williams, Carly Chaikin, Suzy Nakamura, and others, directed by actor and activist Jonathan Slavin. In 2019, she produced and directed a performance at LACE, a contemporary art gallery in Hollywood that curates with social justice in mind. This performance featured Toks Olagundoye, Abraham Lim, Alice Hunter, and others. In 2019, Mari will be one of twelve writers attached to the project.
Mari is also a certified yoga instructor (RYT 600) and currently teaches hatha & vinyasa flow classes at Modo Yoga LA.
