Teaching & Outreach

Mari is a founding member of the OutsideIn theater project at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, an ensemble that creates and performs original work with (formerly) incarcerated people and recovering addicts. On behalf of the Stella Adler Studio, she has taught acting to middle school students in The Bronx, using the class curriculum to introduce playwriting and voice & speech work. She also served as a faculty member of the Stella Adler Outreach Division and taught both Acting Technique and Contemporary Scene Study to at-risk teens on a scholarship.

In 2018, Mari was one of the producers of Homeward LA, a theater project that aims to amplify the voices of those who have struggled with homelessness and raise awareness around the homeless crisis facing Los Angeles. Over ten days in April, 26 productions featuring the same twelve monologues - based on stories from people who have faced homelessness their lifetime -  were performed by hundreds of actors all over the city. Mari's production at OpenSpace LA was directed by Jonathan Slavin and featured Chris Williams, Toks Olagundoye, David Pressman, Carly Chaikin, Suzy Nakamura and Abraham Lim, among others. The project as a whole raised $55,000 for The Midnight Mission on Skid Row, a non-profit that provides three free meals daily for anyone who walks in and runs numerous programs that help people transition out of homelessness. In 2019, Mari will be producing and directing a show for the second edition of Homeward LA.

Mari is also a certified yoga instructor (RYT 600) and currently teaches hatha & vinyasa flow classes at Modo Yoga LA
